Guilden Morden between 'the wars'
Photographs of Guilden morden in early Cent 20th. In 1845, twenty-three men, women, and children emigrated from Guilden Morden in order to start a new life. They sailed on the Cataraqui, which on August 4 was wrecked and everyone on board drowned. The news took a long time to reach the village, but there were still people in the 1950s who could recall hearing from there grandparents about the mysterious bell that was heard tolling over Guilden Morden at what was later discovered to be the exact time of the shipwreck.
