lzimages > Our journey begins on what appears to be a simple trail to the left fork of north creek (most popularly known as the subway) in Zion National Park, Utah. It's recorded as a 9 mile strenuous back country hike (ugh). Only 50 permits are allowed each day to maintain the pristine nature of this hike. Advanced reservations were required.
lzimages > Louis backpacked all our outdoor survival supplies. We were prepared for an overnight stay if needed.
lzimages > There I am(in Anaheim Ducks orange :)making the 400ft descent down the canyon.I'm backpacking over $2000 worth of camera equipment!
lzimages > It was the perfect day for a hike. Not a cloud in the sky...
lzimages > A view of our hike down. The bummer part was to hike back up on our return. There's Lou on the left!
lzimages > We reach the bottom of the canyon and end of the marked trail. The remainder of the hike consists of trail finding, boulder hopping, and treking through the brisk virgin river. We also had to go through dense brush. Long pants and long sleeves highly recommended!
lzimages > The top right portion of this photo marks where we started the hike (whew!)
lzimages > We're surrounded by beautiful rock formations and autumn colors
lzimages > We enjoyed the scenery along the way
lzimages > Our journey to the subway... photo
lzimages > We called this the "enchanted forest". It felt like we just stepped into Narnia.
lzimages > The vibrant autumn reds were spectacular...
lzimages > We finally reach our destination to the opening of the subway (3.5 hours later).
lzimages > The entire area is submerged in low level water. Swimming was optional beyond this point (we chose to hold off on that).
lzimages > It was hard to leave. Prior to our hike, the ranger told us we had to start heading back from the subway at around 3pm or we would be stuck hiking in the dark...
