I came home and purchased my own kayak after our trip. The colorful reflections of the boat were quite magical. As we paddled in the huge bays, we saw swarms of jellyfish, anenome, starfish and other tidal creatures.

Sometimes an adventure is just too good for words. That about sums up our recent 3-week excursion to Alaska. Planes, boats, and trains (and a rental car) combined to help us find what we were looking for in a genuine travel adventure. Then a road/train trip from Anchorage north to Denali and south to Seward and then Whitney, where we boarded our little DISCOVERY vessel to spend a week searching out wildlife, glacier, and wilderness in the silent bays of Prince William Sound.

Now that we are back on the Upper Mississippi River, it's hard to believe that we really were in such a majestic place. No crowds here!!!

Hugh was our natural history guide. During the winter, Hugh guides in the Galapagos Islands. Don't we look forward to getting there one day!!

Kayaking in such a pack of ice is hard work!! This was probably the high point of personal danger for most of us, but particularly Rich, when a particularly large iceberg suddenly reached a point of imbalance and rolled over twice next to Rich's kayak... knocking Rich's boat TWICE, each time it rolled. The ice pack would have prevented any kind of a QUICK rescue in these freezing waters. Rich said he just focused on staying afloat, not doing anything for his part to cause his boat to roll.

Our first ice flow at Nellie Juan Glacier in Port Nellie Juan, Nellie Juan Lagoon. We often used the Zodiak for shore trips, photography, etc.
