At the Daily Gallery one picture, preferably taken that day; is shared with others. While that is difficult to follow (shooting everyday) I have been putting up a picture everyday and this is my second year. It's been a good learning experience and along the way I have made some good friends too!

Once again, thank you for your comments on the surprise party!
Swarup and I were to go tomorrow to Thailand for a week but the flight's canceled and we are leaving tonight! I'll be away for a week so will catch up with you all next week. Cheers!
Last Sunday (25th October), I went to a Dhobi Ghat with friends Sharookh & Nrupen. As it was evening the activity was minimal but still, we got some shots of the people who stay in these areas.

Dhobi Ghat is washers' area in Mumbai. The washers known locally as Dhobis work in open to wash the cloths from Mumbai's homes, hotels and hospitals. There are row upon row of open-air concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone. There are quite a few Dhobi Ghats in Mumbai, prominent amongst them are Mahalakshmi & Cuffe Parade.

Hershy > SURPRISE party!! (Pic 150 2nd year - 4 Nov 2009)

First of all, Swarup & I thank you all for your wishes on our anniversary yesterday. We had planned a family dinner at an Italian restaurant but son Jay & his wife Lakshmi had something else in mind - A SURPRISE PARTY!! They invited 20 odd friends, arranged for snacks, dinner & liquor in just 2 days! They got us to the room under some pretense and it was such a shock to see them all wishing & cheering us! The party was the most MEMORABLE moment of our lives as we crossed another milestone! Aren't children great?!

Hershy > Nariman Point (Pic 145 2nd year - 30 Oct 2009)
Best seen in XLarge size

Taken from the rooftop restaurant The Pearl of the Orient at Hotel Ambassador.

What I liked was the curve of the stadium against the curve of the road on the right.

Brabourne stadium at left bottom. The tall buildings are on Nariman Point which is a reclaimed area. The squarish building is Air India followed by Trident & Oberoi hotels. The hotels were one of the targets during the terrorist attack in November 2008.

Hershy > Mumbai panorama 2 (Pic 144 2nd year - 29 Oct 2009)
Best seen in XLarge size

Taken from the rooftop restaurant The Pearl of the Orient at Hotel Ambassador.

This shows the old & new Mumbai. The road leads to the Fort area the commercial hub of the city.

Left corner has residential buildings. The building with the tower is the tele-communication building with the Reserve Bank of India at the far end. At the far end are the docks.

The building with the tiled roofs is the High Court with the Eros theatre in front of it and beyond it is the Stock Exchange building. The tower is Rajabai Tower at the Bombay University. The tall building with a domed building next to it is Taj Mahal Hotel.

On right is part Brabourne stadium & Nariman point.

Hershy > Mumbai Panorama (Pic 143 2nd year - 28 Oct 2009)

Taken from the rooftop restaurant The Pearl of the Orient at Hotel Ambassador.
This was a difficult shot as the light varied from one corner to the other. Reflections from the window glass was another hitch.

The farthest point is where the state Governor has his residence followed by residential area known as Malbar Hill. The stretch of beach is Girgaum Chowpatty, near my house and from where I've shot many pictures. On the right side is another residential area known as Marine drive. In the early days the road lights had gas lamps and was known as the Queen's necklace.
