Have been busy with work and haven't taken many picture recently, but took a couple last weekend with L. We spent a rainy Saturday with playing, shopping, and watching street performers in Kawasaki.

Hopefully work will slow down a bit and I can get out and about more, but I am not optimistic...

We have had a cold front move through carrying rain with it for the past couple weeks. Finally it was warm enough to ride the bikes to the park and play today.

L has always loved swings and, luckily for us, there is a plethera of parks in Yokohama. From small neighborhood parks that only have a sand lot, sliding board, and swing set to large parks that are filled with forests, fields, and hills there always seems to be somewhere for us to go to when the weather turns for the better.

Warmer than normal today and we took an impromptu trip to Ueno Koen today.

The first cherry trees are starting to bloom already, but despite being warmer than normal there was still a chill in the air that was kept at bay by grilled corn and sweet potatoes from street vendors.

L wanted to take a bike ride last Sunday and we ended up at Sankeien garden for a couple hours. It is only 10 minutes from our home by bike, but we have only been here one other time. Luckily for us, the plum blossoms have started to bloom. Unluckily for us, it wasn't a very warm day....

Walked to one of the temples that is closest to our house - Honmoku Jinja.

This shrine was originally built on Tokyo bay in 1192, but was destroyed in the air raids during WWII. The shrine was then rebuilt in 1954 in a new location and then moved to its current location in 1993.

Even though the location has changed, it is still an important shrine for fisherman in the area and is very busy during festivals, but on this day it was peacefully quiet.

Met up with friends in Tokyo to watch his co-worker's band in a small bar in Shibuya, but left a little later than I wanted and got stranded in Kawasaki for several hours when the trains stopped running for the night...

When I was able to re-enter the train station at 4:00am, I saw this graveyard right next to the station platform.

cephalopoddreams > "Far away, I could hear them lapping up my brains. Like Macbeth's witches, the three lithe cats surrounded my broken head, slurping up that thick soup inside. The tips of their rough tongues licked the soft folds of my mind. And with each lick my consciousness flickered like a flame and faded away."
— Haruki Murakami

Walking through the Yokohama Takashimaya department store the other day and ran across this doll maker. He was giving a demonstration of how he crafts the traditional dolls used during the March 3rd Hinamatsuri, or doll festival.

A large crowd around and I wasn't sure if I was allowed to take photos or not, but after noticing many housewives taking pictures with their camera phones, I also began to take some photos. Not sure if it was the larger camera, or 'cause it was me, but he asked me to stop after several pictures. Not a problem as I was hungry and ready to move on, but the housewives continued to snap photos...
