Grape Harvest Jimmy Hatchett
There are at least eight vineyards in Washington County and Jimmy Hatchett - owner of the largest - also consented to share a bit of his afternoon allowing photos of the harvest. Hatchett has seven varities of grapes - including table grapes. Hatchett takes his grapes to a processing plant outside the county rather than processing in-house. Thanks Jimmy! I enjoyed the ride on the grape wagon and loved the tour!
An orange ribbon on this vine indicates a diseased vine. A fungus which slowly destroys the vine doesn't affect the fruit, but will eventually kill the vine. The fungus is transferred from infected vines to healthy vines by clippers or other tools so the orange tape tells workers not to trim or cut this vine. (c) 2005 Photo by Becky Blanton.
