Insects and macro photography. Almost all of the images are composites. Due to the very shallow depth of field in close-up and macro photography, it is almost impossible to get the whole subject in focus. Therefore, if the subject allows it and it is very cooperative (i.e. does not change position over time), several images are taken with varying focus. The various images are then composed (overlayed) to a single image by masking out all unsharp regions. This way, a sharp image over a focus region can be obtained, that exceeds the limitations dictated by the chosen aperture and magnification setting.
