Once the Eastern Bluebird were as numerous as Robins. The Bluebirds number declined with the introduction of House Sparrows and Starlings from Europe who competed with the Bluebird for nesting sites. The population of Bluebirds also declined due to the loss of habitat. They have benefited from backyard Bluebird houses and the Bluebird population is making a comeback.
