GK/GKAL meeting was held at the UCLA School of Public Health on Thursday, June 18, 2008. The meeting was an opportunity for the tripartite partner-institutions, GK-UCLA-Ateneo, to meet face-to-face and solidify commitments on the institutional partnership. It was also an opportunity to present Tony Meloto's book, Builder of Dreams, to Dean Linda Rosenstock who has been supportive of the GK/UCLA-SPH partnership (Dean Rosenstock is currently the President of the Association of Schools of Public Health for the entire United States). Mayor Sonia Lorenzo of Nueva Ecija presented the book to the Dean. Also present at the meeting was Karleen Giannitrapani, a graduate student in the School's Community Health Sciences (CHS) department, who would be conducting her field studies in the Philippines through GK. Karleen will be leaving for the Philippines on Saturday, June 20, and will be staying for 11 weeks in the Philippines working with GKAL and with the Ateneo GK Builders Institute.

Attendees in the meeting were Dean Rosenstock, Dr. Mike Prelip (Director of Field Studies at UCLA-SPH), Dr. Shira Shafir (Chief Coordinator for the Center for Global and Immigrant Health), Dr. Jessica Gipson (faculty member in CHS who has existing research work in the Philippines), Dave Clark (Assistant Dean for Student Affairs), Megan Aubrey (Assistant Director for Development and Alumni Affairs), Dr. Elen Solis (Head of GKAL Philippines), Mayor Sonia Lorenzo, Baby Congco (Executive Director of the Ateneo GK Builders Institute), Mark Lawrence (GK Coordinator at the Ateneo GKBI) along with Mike and Felice, Su-Chzeng Ong (Director of GK Hope Institute in Singapore), Melanie Kappadakunnel (Co-founder of GK@UCLA student org), and Josie Castro.
