LA Golden Dragon Parade Feb 04 2006 http://thefirstpancake.smugmug.com/gallery/1180376_zLxWV/ Rode my bike down the hill to chinatown to catch the chinese new year parade. I think this one organized by the chinese chamber of commerce is called the golden dragon parade. It was a nice parade, but it was rather frustrating because the floats weren't evenly spaced out. there would be times when there would be gaps that lasted several minutes and people would think that the parade was over and wander into the streets, slowing the incoming floats and contingents down even more. After a while, the crowd control just completely broke down, and so did my self control. I got to run around in the parade route like a crazy photographer! before then I had staked out this really nice place across the street from the gateway to the main square with my back to the sun so i'd have good light and a nice backdrop to take my pictures from but i misread the map and the parade wound up approaching me from the wrong direction! boo! the backlighting was very quite a challenge to shoot with.
