Problems adding photos? Make sure we support the file you'd like to add.
Try the Universal Drag & Drop uploader. It works with all browsers on Windows, Linux, and Safari on OS X (Firefox on OS X if you install this).
If you've already selected a different way to add your photos, you'll find a line of text on the uploader page that says:

Click the 'Try a different uploader' link to go to the uploader list. The one you seek is at the top.
More than likely it will work the first time you try it. If not, here are a few quick steps to try:
1. Download the latest free version of Java.
2. Didn't fix it? Go to your browser options (called Internet Options if you are using Internet Explorer) and make sure that both privacy and security settings are set to 'medium'. Setting them higher will prevent the most interactive portions of the page from working.
Interrupted!
If you get interrupted while adding photos, some images go missing, or some of them partially upload, you may have issues with your connection. The easiest way to check is:
3. Sign up for a free account at DSL Reports.
Go to the 'Line Quality' test (sometimes called Line Packet Loss test). Click tools to find it.
Losses above 2-3% on Low or Medium bandwidth tests mean trouble with your connection or hardware — contact your Internet Service Provider. Questions about reading test results? Email help@smugmug.com and include the results of your test.
If an error message indicates you're trying to add something other than a JPEG, GIF, or PNG, make sure you haven't selected a file like thumbs.db, a non-image file Windows places in many directories. A common way to get this error is to select an entire folder, only to have thumbs.db or some other odd file in it.
Were your files bigger than 8 megabytes? That's our limit, unless you have a pro account — then it's 16 MB.
Did your photos have more than 48 megapixels? Bigger and we choke.
Was your photo damaged or corrupt? If other programs report an error when viewing it, we might not be able to cope with the problem either.
When the Universal Drag & Drop Uploader installs, it asks you to approve an applet from SmugMug. If you clicked no, it won't install and there will be no green Smuggy to drag photos onto. Unfortunately, most browser software—such as Internet Explorer—requires you to exit the browser software and then restart it to get a second chance at saying yes to that dialog.
This not-very-helpful Windows error officially means there is a problem with your connection. It can happen on wireless networks with phones interference, it can be precipitated by security software that is trying to protect your PC, or interruption in the connection with your Internet Service Provider.
The most error-resistant uploader under those conditions is Send To SmugMug, described below.
So sorry for the inconvenience. We are working hard to get a new version of this uploader out the door. In the meantime, please feel free to use the Universal Drag & Drop Uploader.
We have heard a few reports of Java run-time errors using the Universal Drag & Drop Uploader. We haven't been able to reproduce them, so if you see this error please contact SmugMug with the details of your system, such as what browser software you're using
In the meantime, the uploader below will let you say goodbye to Java.
Still stumped? Send To SmugMug spells relief.
If you're on Windows XP and Java is getting you down, try Send To SmugMug, which was developed by a trusted SmugMug customer.
Uploading mpg or png files?
Please try the standard uploader, olde faithful.
