Its spring, in the early 1890’s. The romantic view of Victorian culture pervades our collective memories of this time. Yet, here in Bodie, life was harsh and not at all like our vision of the gay 90’s. I wonder what meals were shared and what conversations ensued at this table on sunny afternoons such as this. Were they discussing the Cleveland – Harrison presidential race, or was that too far removed. Were they discussing the new hydro-electric dam or the declining gold production? If the chair and table could speak, what could they tell us.
