The Sahel plains are dry but not devoid of vegetation. The horizon is punctuated by Ana trees (Faidherbia albida), and an occasional giant, which are adapted to these extreme conditions.
On the road between Bamako and Ségou. Many Malians in this area are nomadic cattle raisers, herding cows and goats to greener pastures.
A smooth car ride in Central Mali. Ségou is located 240 kilometers East of Bamako. Once in a while, our car would come across an occasional taxi or an overloaded truck. The main ‘highway' linking the Malian capital, Bamako, to the North of the country is far from busy.
