“The most Peaceful and Happy Nation of the World” off the beaten track on Development

On the streets , I noticed some youths sporting modern “punk” hairdo. Such is common sight back home where I come from. I can’t help but think about the “intrusive” effect of western influence on conservative Bhutan. Is Peace and Happiness here to stay? Will the status of No. 8 world most Happy country go down the slide?

On arrangement by the Head of Media, I had the opportunity to meet and interview Royal Privy Council Member, Mr Dasho Sangay Wangchug. An easy-going old gentleman who conducts himself with such friendliness and grace, we soon chatted and laughed. His office is simple but functional, a far cry from what we see in government offices in other countries, such is the characteristic of Bhutan and Her Culture.

Besides the Royal Wedding, I told Dasho, I am curious in areas relating to the popularly known high Gross National Happiness index of Bhutan and the Cultural Development.
