SmugMug > keywords > basic > Official Back to Basic Kick Off Sat. January 17, 2009 (Day 277) Back to Basic (SOOC) day 1 of 8. I started my "Back to Basic" challenge today. There will be no post-processing whatsoever on my Daily's for one week. What I (re?)learned from today's shot: * Think about composition FIRST and for all * Be EXTRA careful with the lines on the frame. * I wished I used compensation on this shot- it looks slighting overexposed. This shot was taken horizontally and uploaded as it is. Somehow Smugmug rotated the image vertically. I don't know why... I uploaded twice and it's doing the same thing. Why is that?!? --- --- --- --- ---- --- See below the reply from Smugmug- I think it's pretty interesting: Hi Karina and thanks for writing us! I see the image (looks great! Especially for SOOC!) and one thing I can think of is that from personal experience, pointing the camera directly downwards or directly upwards can fool the auto-rotate. It's possible that the camera interpreted the image as a vertical one, even though it may have downloaded off the memory card in horizontal format. I think the shot looks great vertical, however, and if you did want to bend your rule about modifications, of course you can rotate the image in the gallery using the Tools > rotate feature.
