A Green Basiliscus Lizard.  This lizard is a member of the iguana family.  Mike, our guide, says that this is a female, because the crest on the head is not very prominent.  The ability to seemingly walk on water has earned this lizard the moniker, "Jesus Christ Lizard."

Yellow-Crowned Night Heron - this is a first for us.  Despite its name, this bird is active day and night.  It preys primarily on crabs and crayfish, which it crushes with its short, powerful bill.

SmugMug > keywords > coral princess > 07:19a - Three minutes have lapsed since the gate folded into the niche in the lock walls and we're slowly making our way into the chamber.  In the meantime, the cargo ship in the lane ahead of us is moving into the third chamber.  The gate to the second chamber in the west lane is about to be sealed shut.
