SmugMug > keywords > draft > Looking Into “Looking Into” is a compilation of about 30 images into about 50 layers merged together to create the depth I am always looking for. Through its imagery, it speaks both of fallen nature of humanity and the glory found in creation. It also asks questions of today’s society. Much of the text overlaying the piece is from the rule of St. Benedict, from part of the prologue speaking about people who live a transient lifestyle – drifting from one realm to the next. This questions the viewer to spend more time looking into themselves and into the issues of the world around them. This piece was created originally for my Digital Imaging class. The assignment was to emulate the work of another digital artist. I chose J. Karl Bogartte. This image was then retouched to modify a couple elements to put in as my submission to the Whitworth Art Department Senior Exhibit 2009. Bogartte speaks of his art in the terms of Photomorphosis - morphing photos to create the art. Yet, in this photomorph, I was looking for a deeper essence: a Theophany. Theophany means the appearance of God (from the Greek theo – God and “phainein” – to show). The aim of a theophany photo montage is to show the appearance of God in the artwork – to let his glory and light shine through the artwork to give the viewer the experience of seeing the world full of all kinds of light. I hope by looking into this image, people will take a look into their own lives and be transformed by the renewing of their minds.

SmugMug > keywords > draft > Genuine Intention Tue. June 16, 2009 (Day 23) One of my bosses will have his 40th birthday this Thursday... I was browsing the beer shelves, trying to pick up a bottle for him. The idea is to fill the cowboy boots coozy that I found in Austin this past weekend. I should've asked him what is his favorite beer...but oh well, my intention was genuine.
