Election Day. This is the third election for Hoboken Mayor within the last 6 months. The regular Mayoral election takes place in May, (Why May? I have no idea.) Then there was a run off in June. The new Mayor took office on July 1 and was arrested and resigned within the month for alleged corruption. So we have an Acting Mayor for now. The election for Governor was also today and the Governor lives in Hoboken so lots of his campaign workers were around too.

There were many campaign workers for the different candidates around the PATH station and on all the corners for a few blocks leading away from the PATH. There were about 7 candidates. Anyway, I took a shot of this guy. That is the weekly seasonal farmer's market in the background.

Zimmer for Mayor bicycle. I couldn't resist this shot today as I thought the use of the sign on the bike was creative. More than 24 hours after the election, there is no official winner but it looks like Zimmer's opponent won by 67 votes out of about 12,000 cast in a town of about 40,000 population.

By the way, this was not a Republican vs. Democrat race. They are all Democrats ( there were city council elections as well). Hoboken and Hudson County are strongly Democratic. Strange though that both candidates are relative newcomers ( about 8 years each) and there was the usual newcomers vs. " B & Rs" ( Born and Raised). But I digress. I just thought it was a good photo.

Oh, and Irish asked if anyone called the cops on me for taking photos of the campaign workers, etc. yesterday. As a matter of fact, I did exchange words with one officer who answered "Because it is" when I asked why a street was closed to cars. I didn't appreciate that snide remark and said so. Then I took a few more photos which he didn't like for some reason. His partner basically told him to chill. The street was closed because a crowd had gathered outside one of the candidates headquarters but at first I thought maybe something had happened.

Mayoral election in Hoboken, round 2. Today was the run off in the election for Mayor. This is at the entrance/exit from the PATH train so these election workers were here trying to get last minute voters coming home from work to vote.

I tried to be non partisan by including both sides in this photo. The blue shirts are for one candidate and the green shirts are for the other candidate. As of 2.5 hours after the polls closed, it's still apparently too close to call. Hoboken is a fairly small town, about 43,000 population I think and 1.3 square miles. It's nickname is "The Mile Square City".

I will post all the photos I took tonight when I get a chance and put them in a separate gallery.

P.S. I asked one of the blue shirts to move over so I could get the green shirts in the photo if it matters. Oh, and everyone wanted to know why I was taking photos.
