These guys are all waiting around at Wilshire/Veteran to see something happen with a standoff at the Federal building that's been going on since noon. A man made threats against the president, and when they went to his house to check it out, he took off and led police on a chase that ended when the man parked his car at the Federal building. There was obviously fear that he might have a bomb, hence the standoff. As I write this, he's still in there, despite multiple tear-gassings. Hopefully he'll come out soon and no one will get hurt.
While trying to take a couple photos with my compact with the media, a cop told me I had to leave.
Officer: "Sir, if you're not with the media, you have to get out of the line of fire."
Me: "Fair enough!"
Maybe if I'd had my SLR he wouldn't have noticed. You know, I've been stuck with my compact during a number of big events in Westwood. Prop 8 protests, Transformer's premier and Michael Jackson's death. Oh well.
