Monsoon season arrived in Connecticut today (who knew?), so outdoor photography was out of the question. Thus this photo of our goldfish, Inigo Montoya, who is, astoundingly, still alive. He reminds me of the goldfish in "The Cat in the Hat," practically leaping from the water when I appear in the morning--he knows when breakfast is about to be served!

And because I am incapable of neglecting him, I am now facing the prospect of loading him in the car for the trip to Nantucket for our month-long stay, along with the dog (who has to be sedated for long car trips), four bicycles, countless bags, and lest I forget--at least a case of wine.

Meet Inigo Montoya, a goldfish that my daughter won at a local fair two weeks ago. (She picked the name--I was highly amused. For those you who don't know, he was the wonderful character played by Mandy Patinkin in the movie The Princess Bride.) The most surprising thing is that he is still alive; despite my best efforts I usually kill goldfish within a day or two.

I cleaned the bowl today and figured it might make a good photo-of-the-day but my God, I must have taken 100 photos to get this right. I ended up putting the bowl on our porch railing to get a nice background and natural light (no getting lazy with construction paper this time, James!), although it was cloudy and I would have loved a blue sky peeking through. Maybe next time--if Inigo Montoya is still alive....
