The historic Cedar Creek Grist Mill was built in 1876 and restored in 1989 as a centennial project. It is the only one of 19 grist mills still operating in Washington State. It's impossible to see that it's raining, My wife followed me around with her oversized umbrella as it was pouring down rain.

We went out for a fall colors drive last Sunday, but it was dreary and gray. I soooo wanted to see this on a brilliant fall day. Oh, well...the winter rains have hit SW Washington! I find myself so disappointed with the colors because I've seen pix of it on a sunny day in the fall, so compared to that, this is blah. Maybe you can give me some honest feedback on whether it's a keeper or not. Thanks!

Kilbourne's Cyclone Grist Mill

This is the tower of the old mill, behind Kimball Office Services on the south side of Main Street. Built in 1896, rebuilt after a fire in 1924, and closed in 1969, the old mill is now used as apartment and professional studio space. (#10689)

SmugMug > keywords > grist > 07/20/09 - The boys and I went to Yates Mill Pond yesterday. On the 3rd weekend of the month, they grind corn, and when they grind corn the waterwheel turns. I carried in 4 cameras including 1 for each boy and two tripods. Each of the kids took turns taking pics with the tripod. Johnny felt like such a big boy. Joey was frustrated because he missed his skink (lizard) shot. Very difficult lighting yesterday with the sun going in and out frequently. I'd get set up for it out and it would go in, etc. I guess it spins at least once every 30 minutes, and there is some pressure to be ready for the shot and not to mess it up. The big spill over the wheel only lasts 40-60 seconds, and once it's turning, it's not much of a picture. There's a photo contest yearly in February. Joey and I entered last year, and I hope we'll enter this coming year too.

A photo collage and a link to the rest of the pics is on my blog:

I grabbed this picture quick. I'm not sure if it is really the best from yesterday. How do you tell when there are so many to choose from? :-) I did not have time to compare it to other days when I've shot it while running either.
