The USS Makin Island in the Gulf of Mexico,04 February 2009.It was leaving Northrop Grumman Ship Systems Ingalls Operation Pascagoula for Builders Trials 2.They had a fire on Builders Trials 1.This is the last WASP Class LHD to be built.It has unique characteristics from the previous Seven.Instead of Steam Turbines,it has 2 G.E. Gas Turbines rated at 35,000 hp,with Fairbanks Morse engines powering the 6 4,00Kw Diesel Generators on board.Their is no steam aboard this ship.except when the Cooks prepare boiled eggs.lol.It is set to be delivered to the Navy this summer.Probably in July.
