Our little (except not so little) Christmas Tree. It's completely out of focus and doesn't nearly do this tree justice but without my real camera on hand the blackberry camera had to do and I really wanted this to be my shot for the day.
This is our Christmas tree that my little patient and I have been working on for the past few days as she comes in for her treatments. As I said, it's not quite so little as it's probably stands about 5 feet tall! I took the picture while it was hanging to dry in my office.... hung on the tapestry divider (with paper clips no less) that divides my desk/computer from the playroom! Hey we make do with what we have here!
You can't see all the glitter that my little patient has bedazzled this tree with which was a ton that ended up not just on the tree but on us as well!
Once this is dry we will cut it out and hang it on the unit. Today we are going to make our ornaments and lights to hang on the tree and then of course the final touch... the coup de gras if you will.... our star which has already been cut out and glitterfied will be placed on top!!
These are the days when I love my job! It brings me back to what really matters in life and to me this is the meaning of Christmas joy! Tomorrow while I won't be here because I took a vacation day to spend with my family, she will come in for her treatment and she will find underneath this crazy/beautiful tree we created together.. a present from our unit (the nurses, the doctors and myself). Again this is part of Christmas miracles. Despite all that has been going on, all the job cut backs and everyone watching what they spend... child life (which is my department in this children's hospital) has received an overwhelming amount of donations for these kiddos from our community. So much that not only will each kiddo receive multiple gifts for Xmas this year but we will have plenty left over! And they are really nice gifts too!!
Christmas miracles happen all around... everyday!!!
