Goblin Valley is one of the most unique collections of "hoodos" in the west outside of Bryce Canyon. This is a great location to explore shooting many different styles of photography from panoramics to black and white. The shapes lend themselves to solving compositional problems by forcing the photographer to view the forms. In addition we will be visiting the same location two or more times allowing us to photograph in different light.

Wild Utah with Marc Muench
May 17-21, 2007
$2500, all inclusive, excluding airfare.*

Workshop is limited to 10.

Join Marc Muench as he explores Wild Utah. This 5 day intensive photography workshop will lead you to remote and beautiful areas of Utah where Marc will teach you his secrets of landscape photography. Combining shooting out in the field with Photoshop tutorials and quided critiques of your photography, Marc will create a learning experience that you will never forget.

Marc is a landscape and sports photographer who specializes in incorporating people within the landscape. Marc was designated by Kodak in 2003 as a Kodak Photo Icon. His photography has appeared on covers or inside Time, National Geographic, Traveler, Arizona Highways, Ski, Skiing, Outside, and Sierra Magazine. In addition, he recently published his 9th book.

Marc combines his experience with the drama of nature and the art of creating images, and he strives to "make his own luck" by arranging the subjects, lighting, and landscape elements into stunning compositions.

Marc Muench will create a limited edition 8 x 10 print of one of his images taken during the trip. The prints will be signed and shipped to each participant as a memory of the workshop.

*What does all inclusive mean? It means that your hotel, food, transportation (excluding airfare) and other miscellaneous costs associated with the workshop are covered by your tuition. Once you get to the hotel, you're done spending money -- unless you want to.
SmugMug > keywords > muench workshop > We will start the following day off early with a trip to one of Marc's favorite view points in Colorado N.M. to shoot the sunrise.

Then we are off to Goblin Valley for a preliminary scout in the day light. After checking in to our hotel in Hanksville and an early dinner we will travel back out to Goblin Valley to shoot the sunset.

For those diehards, this would be a reason to bring a film
camera, if you still have one as we will try some very long
exposures during the dusk hour while painting the rock art with
light, and film is still better due to lack of noise.

Laptop computer will come in handy for viewing your files in the
field.
Camera flash with off camera extension.
Marc will bring his Really Right Stuff pano equipment and demonstrate
how it all works.
He will also bring his 24mm tilt shift lens and demonstrate how he
combines two exposures of the same scene in photoshop to turn his
16megapixel camera into a 22megapixel camera.

He uses a camera backpack that also holds several items for short
hikes, such as a sack lunch and water. the longest hike planned
would be two miles both directions if we decide. However, most
shooting will be within a half mile of the cars.
