The Cascade plunges over several waterfalls on its way to Lake Superior. The resulting gorge is narrow, very shady, and prone to rime ice on cold days. This image was taken in December 2008. It was very cold and the waterfall changed on a daily basis as ice was added or melted away.

I found this in a "dusty corner" while cleaning up old files. It dates from December 2007. I wasn't able to use it then, but my evolving interests and much better software gave it another chance.

A black and white retread of an image I posted in December 2008.

This is an odd scene. Michigan Street is more an alley than a street, really, and right up against the freeway. And still there are fancy-looking condos.

The Sundew is a 180 foot Iris Class Buoy Tender. She was launched in Duluth on 8 February 1944. Her entire career was spent on the Lakes and included some very stormy search and rescue work. The Sundew's final homeport was Duluth. She was retired in 2004 and is now open for tours from Memorial through Labor Day. I found this combination right beside my hotel.
SmugMug > keywords > north shore of lake superior > Little Waterfall on Chester Creek; Duluth, Minnesota

One river and a bunch of little creeks flow through Duluth on their way to Lake Superior. Chester Creek is one of my favorites. It usually has a better flow than this, but several weeks without rain had taken a toll.
