It's known as the Lemuel C. Richmond House and was built in 1856. A hexagonal kitchen was added to the home in the 1870s, and another wing was added in the twentieth century. The cupola seen in this photo is the original cupola dating to 1856. The walls of the home are 18 inches thick on the upper floor and 20 inches thick on the first floor. The porch is also original, but you can see from the odd slant that it's starting to show its age.Lemuel C. Richmond HouseBristol, Rhode Island
SmugMug > keywords > octagon > February 12, 2009Octagonal HouseThere are a number of octagonal houses in Rhode Island, a style popularized in 1849 by Orson Squire Fowler. The house depicted here was originally the bandstand at the Boyden Heights Amusement Park. The bandstand was built in 1900. The park closed in 1910, and in 1916 the bandstand was converted to a house. It's still in use today.East Providence, Rhode Island
