The Bell XV-3 (Bell 200) was a tiltrotor design developed in a joint US Air Force and US Army research program to design a plane that could take off vertically like a helicopter but fly at high speeds like an airplane. Today's V-22 Osprey is a direct descendant of this airplane, designed in a partnership between Bell Helicopter and Boeing Rotorcraft Systems.

National Museum of the USAF, Dayton, Ohio - April 2008

This unusual rotorcraft is powered by two pulsejet engines on the ends of its rotor blades. Designed as a liaison, observation, and reconnaissance aircraft, the XH-26 project was eventually scrapped due to the excessive noise from the pulsejets.
