Identified by Peeter. I had no idea. The beak was too long for a finch, and the colors were wrong for a female goldfinch. So, once again, thanks Peter. This bird is about the size of a small finch or sparrow, and now I know the first thing to look at is the beak. The yellow may not be at all apparent.

This little feller flew into one of my windows and was quite stunned. After I picked him up, he perched ( and pooped ) peacefully on the back of my hand for about 5 minutes. I had just gone outside to try to get some other pictures so I had my camera with me and it was on the tripod. It was difficult to man the camera and hold my hand in front of it. Especially since I had my 70 - 300 zoom attached. But I managed several shots and got one to more or less turn out.
