A good workout...90-minutes of cardio machines and strength/stretch exercises. A kickass workout...adding an 11-mile/92-minute run in the middle of the other workout! Was asked, "what are you training for?" Reality is, I'm not ready to circle any goal events on the calendar. The strength/stretch exercises are therapeutic in design. Can't run without them and I wouldn't be doing them if not for the commitment to keep running. So any miles/minutes beyond mile-1 is simple a gift. Gifted myself a lot this morning! A bright sunny long run on the frosted, forested Foothills Trail. Burning surplus staycation hours in the middle of the work week revealed a deserted trail of quiet tranquility. My running is fueled by humility, gratitude and perspective these days. The summer of misery is long gone. Adjustments to the back, feet, attitude and psyche continue. Project Eat Clean also continues to pay dividends.
-81% of the run in threshold zone-4 (heart rate between 132-148).
-Ran a non-typical faster first half - even with a 190' of elevation gain (90% decline on the return trip usually = negative split).
-Calling this the "Frozen Turd Run." It wasn't a shitty run at all, but for some strange reason there were a whole lot of frozen deuce's on the trail...
-Low back was comfortable through 7-miles. Progress. Around 7.5-9-miles discomfort in back and feet had me contemplating walk breaks. But I know now, walk breaks do not necessarily mean I resume running feeling better. Also knowing (doc's confirmed) I'm not incurring long-term damage by continuing to run means I simply dig into "embrace the pain" mode and rely more on mental fortitude.
-Uplifting to reach the traditional end of the trail at the South Prairie bridge, only to discover that the Foothills Trail coalition has punched through, extending the paved trail towards Buckley. Not sure how far it now extends, as I turned around at 5.5-miles though the trail kept going. Sweet, maybe one day this will be my primary marathon training route (at least a 16-mile roundtrip from Orting Park at this point).
