I wonder what this view costs.
This fancy building is on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, just North of San Vicente Blvd. I assume it's condos. Point Dume is the bump on the left in the distance - it marks the Northernmost point of the Santa Monica bay.
I set my camera on a fencepost and put the strap underneath to steady it and get it level. It took quite a bit of wrangling to get right, but it was necessary for the 20-second exposure. I think it worked out.

My lovely wife at the beach next to the Santa Monica pier. We went there this morning before one of our friends had to catch a plane back to the Northern part of the state where she's not too close to the ocean. We had fun walking around in the sand and surf.
Pretty much the only thing I did to get this shot was use spot metering on Ann's face. I'm happy the pier came so well-defined out in the background. If I took this shot again, I would frame it so her head was above the horizon, but otherwise I really like this shot.

[last year] wedding shower - 1 year is coming up!

These agave plants are so photogenic. I got the shot during a post-storm walk around the neighborhood.
Foxtail Agave (Agave attenuata). Native to Mexico.

Please comment if you know what plant this is. It looks quite pleasant in the wind. I took the shot along Adelaide Drive in Santa Monica, which overlooks Rustic Canyon and the ocean. It's a popular spot for stair running, although the neighbors don't like it. I don't think they minded me on my bike.

Tonight I took a little bike ride on the beach during sunset, much like the person I took a photo of. I stopped at a spot just North of the Santa Monica pier where the path makes a nice gentle curve and waited for people to walk/run/ride by.

Happy 999!
Today is the 100th birthday of the Santa Monica Pier, so the wife and I headed down to enjoy the festivities. We went to Buddha's Belly and got 100-proof pomegranate martinis, a 1-night drink special for the centennial. Next we headed down to the pier where Dick Dale was playing his guitar and lots of people were milling about. Then we headed back up on the bluffs to view the fireworks show, the first one in this area in 18 years.
This shot is handheld, since I couldn't get a good position at the edge of the bluffs with my gorillapod. It was incredibly smokey, so it was kind of hard to get good shots. It was still pretty great to enjoy fireworks in September. I hope they continue to have fireworks here, I'm not sure why it's been 18 years.
