SmugMug > all-time keyword > setup > 2009-11-06 Orb Weaver Spider SETUP Thanks to the porch light, I noticed this awesome spiderweb near my neighbor's door. I'm sure the porch light is what drew the spider to that location, too, and in fact it was chowing down on a bug, so I grabbed my camera. Also, I'd taken no good photos that day. I set my remote flash on a nearby bush and used the snoot to focus the light on the spider. I had to set my doormat on the bush to set the flash on so it was raised up, otherwise the flash fell in and wouldn't get triggered - that took an embarrassingly long time to figure out. I would have gone in for a shot with my macro lens, but the dead/dormant bush in the way didn't allow me to get very close, and I couldn't move it because the web was attached to it. I also used a spray bottle in the hopes of getting some drops to stick to the web, but I don't think you can tell in the final shot - I was trying to use the water sparingly so I didn't scare off the spider.
