SmugMug > keywords > talking > Talking to God, Abbadia di San Salvatore, Tuscany (detail) I like this painting immensely as it was one of those direct links to God. In 2007 I was obsessed with painting Tuscan scenes for about three months and this was one of them – the Abbadia di San Salvatore in Tuscany. It formed the place of prayer and the telecommunication towers at the top of the hill the medium for the phone call to the Almighty. I surrounded the telecom towers with an earth of gold leaf, to improve the conductivity of the signal, generated by the universe in one direction and interior of me in the other. The clouds just happened in line with the epistemology of the Christian churches. The sort I would see myself supine on in a Christian heaven. The black cross is the pivot through which the actual conversation with God is conducted and the abbey towers part of the pathway. I agonized with the forest between the monastery and the hill summit but it evolved in a giant swirl to be just what I wanted. Or was it what God wanted as he/she/it watched over the evolution of this part of the ‘samsaric’ dream? I sneaked in the shed in the lower right-hand corner, having deduced that this part of the pic needed some gardening. The hill is Monte Amiata, the highest feature in Tuscany south of the Arno River. This painting is now in France, as I gave it to Elodie and she gave it to her mother (on the condition that she has it framed). SmugMug > keywords > talking > day 115: "covert operation". i took a ton of monotonous shots of a ladies' tea today but had a few "behind the scenes" photos. here, my friends roy and ted are talking it up but they appear to be up to something sneaky! it has the feel of a "hit" getting ready to take place. "when you get the shot take it" or "don't drink the cup of tea to the left of the platter".
