SmugMug > keywords > tipulidae > Just hanging around...Whoa, what? I decided to shoot dandelions today since there is a virtual forest of them growing in my yard. Patches of it looked as if it had snowed this morning. After taking a few rather blah wide angle shots, I put a longer lens on and scanned around for an interesting composition and this is what I found almost instantly. Here is a closeup of the top one - that is one ugly looking insect. View link in x3 for all the creepy detail. If anyone can ID these creatures, I'd appreciate knowing. Found out through Wikipedia that these are a species of Crane Fly. Check this link for a great macro shot of one. Thanks for all the comments on the Japanese red maple collage. I was rather pleased with the way it turned out.
