Our brief hike atop the mountain was quickly interrupted by thunderclouds and a pouring rain. We took shelter in the observation deck and were informed that the tram to the base would be indefinitely delayed until the thunderstorm cleared away. There were some spells of lightning as well. The observation tower was jampacked with over 150 travellers scheduled to descend the peak once the storm cleared. Finally around 2pm, the storm packed up and we secured a seat in the first tram down to the base. It was quite an adventure, and New Mexico never disappoints!
