The end of the week, and this is exactly how I feel (and I hold this little guy partly responsible). Happy Friday everyone!

The steady rain dampened my enthusiasm for more fall foliage shots (probably a good thing), so the puppy was my target today. His one blue eye is so distinctive, I knew I wanted to do a photo like this. I realize that he looks a little demonic here...he can, in fact, BE a little demonic...but I just thought this was a fun and quick shot for a rainy day. Amazingly, I had to decrease the blue saturation in his eye so he didn't look like a canine version of a character from the movie "Dune."

I told you it would be nothing but puppy photos for awhile...I got about as much sleep last night as I did when my kids were newborns, but Seamus is so sweet and fun that the sleep deprivation actually seems worth it. I did try to get photos of him on the move, but everything was out of focus--as much the groggy photographer's fault as the bouncy puppy's.

We chose this puppy, in part, because of his amazing eyes (we're praying that one stays blue) but we're finding that his wonderful temperament is an even more charming quality...plus, he's already posing for the camera. My kinda dog.

Constant rain (and a pile of bills and paperwork) kept me indoors today, thus the photo of the dog. Plus, I have dogs on the brain...crazy as we may be, we are getting a new puppy this coming Wednesday. I'd better bank some sleep and R&R before then, I have a feeling it's going to be sheer chaos for a couple of weeks.

I came across this lone barn on my walk this morning in my new favorite-place-to-walk-the-dog, the 780-acre Sanford Farm nature preserve just up the road from our rental house on Nantucket. It was very grey and overcast (we're starting to viscerally understand why Nantucket is known as "The Grey Lady"), but I thought this barn was reminiscent of Andrew Wyeth's paintings of New England. I figured the barn needed some sort of foreground subject, however, and the dog was the only subject on hand. I actually got him to pay attention to me by uttering his favorite question: "Do you want to go for a walk?"

Of course, he does not possess the cognitive sophistication to understand that he was, in fact, ON a walk, but the question always gets him to perk up his ears and tilt his head at a rakish angle.

I added a gold graduated filter to liven up an otherwise completely uninteresting sky. I hope Andrew Wyeth would understand.
