Golden Egg Chapel

This is one of the chapels inside Linköping Cathedral. The obscurely lit sandstone works really well with HDR photography.
Linköping Cathedral

As with many of these medieval cathedrals, its history is not entirely clear. It was probably inaugurated sometime in the 1100s, blending romanesque and gothic styles. Also, it's the biggest church building in Sweden after Uppsala Cathedral.
The Carrara Altar II

Another shot of the marble altar, with the baptismal font in the foreground.
The Gothic Crypt

This crypt was designed by Carl-Gustaf Blom-Carlsson and built in 1856. I love gothic architecture, even when it's gothic in ornamentation only.
The Crematorium

This was the first Swedish crematory building, designed by Gustav Lindgren and built in 1909. It was taken out of service in 1989 and is today used as a chapel.

Of course, "crematorium" is a neologism introduced in the 1930s. We used to call this a "likbränningsanstalt" in Swedish, literally meaning "corpse burning facility". If you ask me, the original term is way cooler.
Head of Gold

A skull resting on a limestone shell, surrounded by golden leaf ornamentation. We do see part of a sixteenth century altarpice in the lower right corner.
