Among the buildings lost was the ten story Home Insurance Building (1884) William Le Baron Jenney, which stood at the corner of South LaSalle & Adams Streets from 1885 to 1931. It was, due to its’ unique architecture and structural steel weight-bearing frame, was considered by many to be the world's first skyscraper.
