Dawn from Canyonview Overlook Trail, Zion National Park
After hiking through the dark and the cold using our headlamps to guide us, we had only to wait and watch the paintbrush of the rising sun slowly illuminate the valley below us. The Towers of the Virgin are visible in the distance as well as the snaking windy road leading up to the historic Mt Carmel tunnel built in 1930 by the U.S. Army Core of Engineers. The hike is not a difficult one but I would advise hiking it during the day first, also the best light is before direct sunlight hits the cliffs so be sure to leave early as a number of photographers showed up too late.
