Heritage Photography

This is one of those ‘you can’t connect the dots looking forwards’ things. Let me explain.

After being behind the camera for so long, I’ve got quite a few images here (a little over 100,000 in my main Lightroom catalog). That provides a great opportunity to look for patterns - a particular style that I unknowingly favour, or subject matter I seem to be drawn to.

In my case, it gradually became clear that the subjects were frequently about the history of an area. Both the cultural and architectural heritage : the buildings, signs, monuments and people that define a particular slice of time.

The ‘Local History’ section of this site looks at this kind of Heritage Photography. Locations with a rich history; both here (Sydney, Australia) and around the world. Love it.

NB : all of the photographs on this site are available for purchase as prints. Just click the ‘Buy’ button above each image.

Alternately, if you’re looking to incorporate a particular image or collection in a project you’re doing - a book, a magazine, presentation etc - just let me know, and we’ll sort something out. Cheers.
