Homolovi Polychrome Bowl
Anasazi (Prehistoric Pueblo); Winslow Orangeware; bowl; 1300-1400 A.D.
Soft tan-red-brown paste; sherd, coarse sand temper; red-tan-orange slip; black outlined with white. Incurved rounded bowl with a thick black broken “onane” band painted below the interior rim that frames a bisected composition of opposing bold black hooked angles with double stepped angle fringe. Areas surrounding these elements are filled with fineline hatching and major decorative components are outlined with fine white banding. The exterior features three horizontal hourglass elements with serrated edges of negative orange and black and outlined in white.
