Grand Traverse Metro Fire crews clear hot spots in a brush fire in a field at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Metro Fire Capt. Troy Holliday said crews extinguished the fire, which did not damage any graves, then worked to pull apart several dry piles of brush and grass in the field. “We pull them apart and hose them down,” Holliday said. Tim Locker, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gaylord, said dry conditions exist throughout the Traverse City area. Average monthly rainfall through March 23 totals 1.39 inches, but this year the area has only received .14 inches of rain this month.
