Scenic Drive, Capitol Reef National Park, UT
Last fall a friend and I took a trip to several national parks out west and discovered a secret gem: Capitol Reef NP. The least well-known of "The Big Five" in Utah (Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef), it was stunning on a scale I've never before experienced.
Try to imagine a small, winding road with no traffic, and beside it, towering formations of rock and stone which boggle the mind. I mean, these things were the size of mountains. And in the middle of it all, a quaint, green river valley full of orchards (open to the public), and a small historic homestead now selling tasteful souvenirs, and tasty pie and ice cream.
We did not spend enough time in Capitol Reef. But thankfully, God blessed us with great light the one evening we were there and I managed to capture a slice of its beauty.
