Withered But Whole
This rose means something - I got it from a memorial service for Rey, a coworker who took his own life 3.5 years ago. It was that day’s photo: http://www.jawsnap.net/Daily/Year6/i-VLrdV2w. I’ve kept it at my desk since then, until today, when I had to vacate for an office redesign next week. Not willing to simply toss it out, I stopped by the one place on campus that resembles nature, took this photo, then crushed the rose and dropped the petals in a small stream, headed towards the ocean.
It’s a reminder to be kind, because you don’t know what someone else is going through. It’s a reminder to stand up for others when they need help. It’s a reminder to seek and accept help yourself.
I hope I can look back after these tough years ahead and know that I did those things.
