Thursday, January 31, 2013 "ICE-COATED CYCAD" "If any man seeks for greatness, let him forget greatness and ask for truth, and he will find both." ~ Horace Mann SOOC, uncropped Brrrrr.........raindrops keep falling on my........ I couldn't resist posting another "ice cold" shot from the effects of our city's recent winter storm two weeks ago. This is the Japanese Sago Palm that you've seen from different perspectives in previous daily posts in my 2012 gallery. It was photographed the same day as the previous two pics. Sago Palms actually are not in the palm family, but are instead a cycad.... its botanical name being Cycas Revoluta. Fortunately Cycas Revoluta is a relatively cold tolerant cycad, able to handle frost and temps as low as 19 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks for your comments on my "ICICLES" photo yesterday. Friday, February 1, 2013 "ICY BUSH" “To every word of love I heard you whisper, the raindrops seem to play a sweet refrain.” ~ The Beatles Brrrr.....it's February, already and my hubby informed me that today is National Wear Red Day! Red is my favorite color. Since ice storms are very rare for us, I have a few more shots from the winter storm two weeks ago to share and then I'll move on to another subject:). Photographed the same day as the previous three pics, this is one of four short bushes in our front yard covered in ice. It was also a 60% work day........woo hoo:)! Tuesday, January 29, 2013 "STREAMS OF ICE" “Mirrors are ice which do not melt: what melts are those who admire themselves in them.” ~ Paul Morand SOOC, uncropped Brrrrr........... Two weeks ago, on the day this mirror was photographed, we were allowed to leave work early (12:50 PM) due to an ice storm warning in effect. Once I arrived home and parked the vehicle under the garage, I took this picture. The weather was intensely freezing cold with temps in the lower 30s during the day and the lower 20s at night.
