"FLORAL and STRIPES" Theme

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” ~ Washington Irving

The debut of our May table setting.......

Happy Mother's Day to ALL women!!! Believe it or not; we are nurturers by nature and in some way, either biological or spiritual mothers, surrogate mothers, mother-figures, Godmothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, aunts, sisters, cousins, sister-friends, and mentors.

Did you notice that I reused the placemats, napkins, and napkin rings from the April table setting? Also, I spotted the bowl in Wal Mart about two weeks ago, and during that time, it matched perfectly with the April table setting, also.

GOOD NEWS / EARLY MOTHER'S DAY GIFTS: I think I mentioned in one of my commentaries that I was enrolled in two graduate classes this semester while employed full-time; I am pursuing my 3rd degree - a Specialist degree and I am half-way finished. The semester officially ended last week and I earned an A in both classes (thank God) that were VERY challenging and involved a lot of reading, critical thinking, analyzing, and writing. All in all, I gained a wealth of knowledge, had the grace of God, a very supportive husband, and instructors who were true experts and professionals in their respective profession.

The table is spread; feast and enjoy your day!

"TWO-STORY"

"Having somewhere to go is what we call HOME. Having someone to love, who loves us in return, is what we call FAMILY. Having both: BLESSING." ~ Kemmy Nola

There's no place like home. I photographed this one from the vehicle one day after work; the lovely low-light and shadows were initial attractions. I am aware that it is slightly tilted:).

Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday!

"BACKSIDE"
(A Happy For Me)

"You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus" ~ Mark Twain

Spring break begins today..........woo hoo!!!!!

A follow-up to yesterday's post - a view of the back of yesterday's yellow rose from Ms. Annette, an 80 years "young" lady:). I sort of like the worn look and the color combinations - such a contrast to yesterday's front view of this same rose.

According to www.goldflorist.com., "Yellow roses, with their sunshine color, show the joy and happiness that friends bring into our lives and as such the yellow rose is very appropriate to send to friends. One of the things that make the yellow rose so special is that it indicates a true friend and a true friend is a rare and wonderful gift."

Have a marvelous Monday.

"A HAPPY FOR ME"

"Imagination is more important than knowledge." ~ Albert Einstein

Spring forward; daylight savings time begins today! I'm almost certain that every year, the emotions range from dismay at losing an hour of sleep, then joy at the fact of seeing daylight more and more often.

SOOC, uncropped

I can't wait for spring to make her arrival later this month and provide an opportunity for me to photograph more color and blooms. On the day that this photo was taken, I was in the process of working on a very tedious, rigorous, and time-consuming class assignment all day. Ms. Annette, an 80 years "young" lady sent this to me; it made my day! It also allowed me an opportunity to take a break from the assignment to grab the camera, take a quick pic, and upload it to this gallery. Don't we all love pleasant surprises?

I am overwhelmingly appreciative of your comments on yesterday's table setting photo; it landed in the #2 spot. Congrats to my friend Judy (aka fotoeffects) for the #1 photo.

Have a blessed day, everyone!

"SWISS CHARD"

"If at first you don't succeed, redefine success!" ~ Author Unknown

These plants were spotted and photographed in the front yard of the same home as the Dusty Millers in yesterday's photo. Thanks for your comments yesterday - and here's another shout out to Judy (aka fotoeffects) and Linda (aka Lgood) for identifying them:).

"Swiss chard is not only one of the most popular vegetables along the Mediterranean, but it is one of the most nutritious vegetables around and ranks second only to spinach following our analysis of the total nutrient-richness of the World's Healthiest vegetables." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=16

According to Better Homes and Garden, "If you're tired of the same old vegetable side dishes, grow Swiss chard. You'll find dozens of different ways to serve it. The classic preparation is to lightly saute; it in olive oil and garlic. But also use its greens raw in salads. Or sliver the leaves and stems and had several handfuls to a pot of soup. Swiss chard is an attractive plant, and the newer "rainbow" Swiss chards available are very striking -- and still taste great. You can even include them in a flowerbed! Although flavor is best in cool weather, chard tolerates the heat of summer quite well."

Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday!

"DO-NUT SIGN"
(Doughnut)

"Keep calm and eat do-nuts." ~ Author Unknown

Thanks so much for your comments on yesterday's "One Per Day" (red apple) photo.

I snapped this shot while waiting to order two plain glazed do-nuts one morning on my way to work. I must admit that of all the various brands of do-nuts I've tasted in my life, Shipley Do-Nuts are the best, in my opinion. When they are hot and straight out of the oven, they are even more mouth-watering yummylicious:)!

The official Shipley Donuts website is here: http://www.shipleydonuts.ws/

Have a terrific Tuesday, my friends!

"BURST OF PINK"

"Pink is the navy blue of India." ~ Diana Vreeland

Today is International Women's Day!

I guess this can be considered a follow-up post; you probably recall seeing this pink plant being next to the purple Swiss Chards in yesterday's photo.

Oh Happy Friday!!!

"DUSTY MILLERS"

“May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow. May the soft winds freshen your spirit. May the sunshine brighten your heart. May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you, and may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.” ~ Irish Blessings

One evening after work, I spotted these white plants in the front yard of a home around the corner from our home, but I didn't know know what kind they were and the homeowners were not home for me to inquire.

UPDATE at 4:52 PM - Thanks to Judy (aka fotoeffects) and Linda (aka Lgood) for identifying these as Dusty Miller plants; thus, the caption change from "Rain on White" to "Dusty Miller."

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

"TRIO OF RED LEAVES"

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves." ~ John Muir

Thanks for your comments on yesterday's photo. I'm still feeling slightly under the weather - no time for posting comments today, either; but I'll get caught up.

Have a terrific Tuesday.
