"PEDDLE BELL TOWER"
"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings." ~ Karolyn Grimes
My nephew, who matriculated from Mississippi State University in 2014, would not be elated to discover that I posted this photo prior to the ones I took at his alma mater last month. To him I say, "I love you and MSU; Hail State!" - :)!
Ole Miss renewed its rivalry status with Mississippi State University during last Saturday's men's basketball game at The Pavilion at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. The Bulldogs were defeated by a score of 64-58. It was a sunny, but chilly day with temperatures in the lower 40s. Pre-game, we strolled the campus and I took advantage of the photo opportunities. We ate at Ajax Diner (Eli Manning's favorite local restaurant, according to the locals) for the first time and the food and service were impeccable. There's an interesting story behind the toothpicks on the ceiling that I photographed (with cell phone), but it's not a satisfactory shot; therefore, it will not be a daily photo. We'll be back!
"Thirty-six stunning bronze bells in the new Peddle Bell Tower ring out a message of inspiration in the daily life of a great American public university. The crowning touch of the Paris-Yates Chapel is the Peddle Bell Tower and its carillon. Cast in a Dutch foundry, the bells are connected by cables to a keyboard at the base of the tower. The keys permit a carillonneur to perform on the instrument that also can be operated by a computerized, automatic system to ring out the hour and half hour, and special music such as The University of Mississippi alma mater. The bell tower and carillon are a gift to the university from Frank and Marge Peddle of Oxford. The bells ring every day at 5 PM and lasts for about 15 minutes."
