"SIGNS OF FALL IN WINTER"

"Fall has always been my favorite season, the time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year from the grand finale." ~ Lauren DeStefano

SOOC, uncropped

Although the first day of winter was December 21, 2012, these leaves are a brilliant array of autumn's color palette! I spotted these leaves on a rainy Saturday morning in the front yard of a home around the corner (on the same street) from our home. This was a very quick snapshot. I was sort of surprised to see fall/autumn leaves still hanging on this time of year. A sign of the times? You bet!

Oh Happy Friday!

"FLAPPER BAGS"

"Those who corrupt the public mind are just as evil as those who steal from the public purse." ~ Adlai E. Stevenson

"Beaded and mesh handbags, which had been popular until the 1900's, made a brief comeback with the "Flapper Bags" of the 1920's. Just large enough to carry a few necessary items, these bags were a stylish compliment to the sophisitcated beaded dresses of the era. Many ladies made their own bags, often using designs they had created themselves. The bag with the mulit-colored fringe beads is probably a handcrafted item." ~ Text reprinted from the card shown in the glass case

Thanks for your comments on the "It Is What It Is" photo yesterday of President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama. Despite the "red bandit" and the fact that the photo disappeared from the dailies several times, it was the #17 photo of the day. I must admit that they looked stellar last night (at the Commander-In-Chief Inaugural ball at the Washington Convention Center during the 57th Presidential Inauguration) and Michelle's dress was "off the chain" and of course, in my favorite color.......red!! She is one fashion-forward First Lady.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

"SCARF"

"To be a fashionable woman is to know yourself, know what you represent, and know what works for you. To be "in fashion" could be a disaster on 90 percent of women. You are not a page out of Vogue." ~ Author Unknown

Thanks for your comments regarding yesterday's "Citizen Calibre 8700" watch photo; it landed in the #1 spot. I am humbly appreciative.

Be blessed!

"A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, and must empty us. The fruit of silence is prayer; the fruit of prayer is faith; the fruit of faith is love; the fruit of love is service; and the fruit of service is peace." ~ Mother Teresa

Your comments on yesterday's "Candle Holders" photo are very much appreciated. So far, there have been many outstanding photos posted in this community this year; keep them coming. SmugMuggers, you rock!!!

SOOC, uncropped - I snapped this photo as I was sitting in the car one morning, awaiting the arrival of my breakfast, and on my way to church. I have not had much time to take photos, so this was a desperation shot:).

"DISCO ORBS"

"Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune, but great minds rise above them." ~ Washington Irving

Thanks very much for your comments regarding yesterday's "This Old House" photo. I never overlook or take for granted that you take the time to peruse and comment on my photos.

I love this decorative and unique display of orbs - created by me - at a relative's house; they sure remind me of psychodelics and disco lights:). A black wrought iron stand serves as the base. Then, I placed a solid, thick, red plate on top and sat the orbs in the silver tray to add interest to the area. Initially, I was going for the red plate to sit upright in the wrought iron stand (as an original and unique art piece), but it didn't fit, thus, plan B was the look shown here.

Also, the orbs conjured up memories of Soul Train, "the hippest trip in America" that, according to Wikipedia, "was an American musical variety show that aired in syndication from 1971 to 2006. In its 35-year history, the show primarily featured performances by R&B, soul, and hip hop artists, although funk, jazz, disco, and gospel artists have also appeared. The series was created by Don Cornelius, who also served as its first host and executive producer." The glare on the wall is from the orbs.

Have a wonderful "disco" kind of Wednesday:).

"THIS OLD HOUSE"

"He who loves an old house never loves in vain." ~ Isabel La Howe Conant

Thanks for your comments on the "Mixed Artificial Fruit" post yesterday. Despite a considerable amount of blatant "red bandit activity," it was the #9 photo of the day.

Fellow SmugMugger John (aka keyphoto) was the first person that I thought about upon seeing this old, empty, (maybe even, historical) house that I spotted while traveling the back roads of the delta. He locates and photographs great historical buildings that always tell a story. Its address and the word MAGNOLIA (in all caps) were on the brick mailbox. I researched information regarding this home, but to no avail. It even looks like a plantation house that has been restored. I love the wrap-around porch.

Another 60% work day due to the ice storm warning (Winter Storm Helen)......woo hoo!!!

Have a terrific Tuesday.
