LNER Sentinel steam railcar displaying the number 45 during service as a rolling exhibit at the 1925 Stockton & Darlington Railway Centennial celebrations. The 45 is spurious as it indicates only that it is the exhibit number. The vehicle is one of the first two Sentinels built to order for the LNER in 1925 by Sentinel Waggon Works of Shrewsbury following trials with a prototype. According to the LNER Encyclopedia they were classified as Diagram 14600-614E with LNER fleet numbers 13 E and 14E although I don't know which of the two is depicted here or, indeed, exactly where this shot was taken.
