2013年01月01日、長野県千曲市の武水別神社(たけみずわけ)にある装飾彫刻。扉を守るように一対で彫られていました。
祖父(93歳)は73年前、軍隊に行く際にこの神社にお参りに来たそうです。そして今年、73年越しのお礼参りをしました。「遅くなったけれども無事に帰って来ましたってお礼したよ。」という爽やかな笑顔が印象的でした。

My grandfather, who is 93 years old, came here to pray for his safety before he joined the military. And this year, he came back here after 73 years for the first time to offer his thanks. He said, “I pray to gods, ‘it’s a bit late, but I am back safely.’” His bright smile was unforgettable.
