500px Photo ID: 95939719 - During my recent trip to South Africa I was fortunate enough to swing by the Blyde River Canyon in the Mpumalanga province. I have always been blown away by the images of this place, thanks to amazing landscape photographers like Hougaard Malan, Mark Dumbleton and Paul Bruins. This is one of the deepest canyons in the world and also probably the greenest. I knew I was going to have to make the best of whatever conditions were out there, since I had only one shot of photographing this place, actually only an hour or two!
When we arrived there it was busy raining but I could see that it would not last for too much longer. I headed out to the canyon and I started scouting for compositions. I could see the system moving west in the distance and the sun was about to break through it. Al I wanted was some nice light on the canyon walls, but I was treated to so much more! A stunning rainbow appeared before me and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It took me while to get it together and with adrenalin pumping through my veins, I started snapping the shutter. I soon realized that I had to construct a panorama with sets of vertical images to include the whole rainbow, and this was only possible with a UWA lens. I am so lucky to have been there at such a perfect time! I hope this image inspires many of you to travel there one day! :)
